Ingredients
  

Casserole Base
  • 1 package refrigerated biscuit dough Flaky kind preferred, but any will work
Gravy Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground pork sausage Mild, spicy, or sage based on preference
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour For thickening gravy
  • 2 cups milk Can substitute with half-and-half or unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter For cooking the sausage
  • to taste salt Season as desired
  • to taste black pepper Season as desired
  • optional garlic powder For added flavor if desired
  • optional shredded cheddar cheese For a cheesy variant

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Chop the biscuit dough into bite-sized pieces and place in a large ovenproof dish.
  3. In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and crumbled.
  4. Sprinkle in the flour and cook for an additional minute while stirring.
  5. Gradually add the milk, stirring until the mixture thickens into gravy. Season with salt, pepper, and any additional spices.
  6. Pour the sausage gravy over the biscuit pieces in the dish, making sure to cover all the pieces.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until biscuits are puffed and golden.
  8. Let it cool for five minutes before slicing to avoid burning.

Notes

Can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. Leftovers can be kept in an airtight container for up to two days or frozen for up to two months.
